Through this destinations program, owners with points can travel outside of their home resort to take Marriott vacations at other resorts. The Marriott Vacation Club Destinations program does not work for owners with traditional legacy weeks. The three main brands that Marriott timeshare owners can use points within include Marriott Vacation Club, Ritz-Carlton Destination Club, and the Grand Residences at Marriott.
Additional Marriott Vacation Club Owner Benefits
Marriott timeshare ownership comes with fabulous benefits, in addition to exchanging internally or externally with Interval International.
Legacy week owners who like to vacation for less than a full week have the option to elect for Split-Week. This allows them to break up their timeshare into two smaller vacations. For instance, you can choose to have a vacation from Sunday through Thursday and return to your home resort for the remaining portion of Thursday to Sunday at a later date.
For Destination Points owners within Marriott Vacation Club, there are additional benefits available. Specifically, there are two ownership levels that offer enhanced privileges – “Premier” and “Premier Plus.” To qualify for the Premier level, you must own 6,500 points, while the Premier Plus level requires ownership of 13,000 points. These may include priority access to reservations, enhanced booking windows, and exclusive member benefits.

Benefits That Won’t Transfer When Buying Marriott Timeshare Resales
If you buy Marriott legacy weeks on the timeshare resale market, you can’t convert them into Marriott Reward Points, which are eligible for use on non-timeshare Marriott hotels. This restriction could be annoying for owners, but if you have a home resort that you love, during a week that you love, it might not bother you at all.
If you buy Marriott Vacation Club destination points on the resale market, however, you are open to converting to non-timeshare Marriott hotel stays. As long as you pay Marriott the transfer fee at closing, you get to keep the same benefits with Marriott Vacation Club points.
Marriott Timeshare Weeks vs Points On The Resale Market
A resale buyer can purchase weeks or points on the secondary market. But, which should you purchase? If you like flexibility and traveling to a different Marriott Vacation Club timeshare each year then points are probably the way to go. If you prefer making one timeshare your home away from home, then weeks are probably the way to go.
